Born from a community that refused to look away

Change starts with empowering our youth and creating pathways for success that ripple through entire communities.

902 Man Up is a non-profit volunteer organization founded in 2016 in response to the increase in community violence, particularly involving Black males. We are dedicated to the advancement of all Black communities within Nova Scotia, focusing on the empowerment of young Black men.

Our expanded mandate includes all individuals or groups at risk of marginalization and social and academic exclusion.

Historic Africville, Nova Scotia

Africville · Halifax, Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia is home to over 50 historic Black communities, many founded by Black Loyalists, Maroons, and Black Refugees who arrived between the 18th and 19th centuries.

Their stories are not just about struggle. They are about triumph, legacy, and the ongoing fight for justice and recognition. Despite systemic racism, land inequities, and economic marginalization, these communities have preserved their unique culture, traditions, and sense of identity. 902 Man Up works to document, preserve, and celebrate them.
